Cast of 44 Inch Chest Fills Out

Variety reports that Tom Wilkinson, Joanne Whalley (The Man Who Knew Too Little), and Melvil Poupaud (Speed Racer) have joined the cast of the British gangster drama 44 Inch Chest, which recently began shooting in London.

According to Variety, the film is about a British gangster, played by Ray Winstone (Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull), who seeks revenge on his wife and young lover.

Nicholas Cage is a Bad Lieutenant

Variety reports that Nicolas Cage will star as the eponymous character of Bad Lieutenant, a remake of the1992 film of the same name starring Harvey Keitel.

The film, which will be directed by Werner Herzog (Grizzly Man), follows a crooked New York police officer who is heavily involved in drugs, gambling, sex, and theft. The original film received an NC-17 rating.

Edward R. Pressman is producing the film, which will begin shooting this summer.

Spielberg’s Civil War

Variety reports that Steven Spielberg will begin to focus his attention on a new DreamWorks feature about Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War.

Liam Neeson reportedly agreed to play Lincoln over three years ago and has been waiting for the still-pending production start date. Playwright Tony Kushner wrote the script, which is largely derived from biographical work by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Doris Kearns Goodwin. Kushner last wrote the screenplay for Spielberg’s Munich.

The film is about the end of South African apartheid, detailing the talks between Afrikaner members of South Africa’s white rule government and African National Congress exiles that helped lead to Nelson Mandela’s release from prison in 1990.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, Joseph Gordon-Levitt (Stop-Loss) and Zooey Deschanel (Elf) will star in 500 Days of Summer, an upcoming “anti-romantic comedy” from Fox Searchlight.

According to the Hollywood Reporter article, the film is “an examination of a relationship between a woman (Deschanel) who doesn't believe in love and the man (Gordon-Levitt) who falls hopelessly in love with her.”
